The eCash world has been quiet in the last weeks, still waiting for exchanges to adopt the new rebranding and redenomination schemes. Development work continues and under wraps there are talented people working day by day to implement each of the technologies shown in the eCash Roadmap. One of these talented people is Joey King, a key developer at Bitcoin ABC. eCash NEWS Today interviewed Joey, @BytesOfMan on Telegram, to learn more about how tools are being developed that will make eCash more functional for programmers and users.
Joey King offered a small glimpse into his job in Bitcoin ABC, the team in charge of shaping eCash. He has been in the team working as a full-stack developer since September 2020. When asked for a development update on the eCash ecosystem, Joey King had a clear response:
“For now, Avalanche is the highest development priority.”
This confirms that the team of Bitcoin ABC is completely dedicated to finishing the implementation of Avalanche, a consensus algorithm that will be used to bring more security and better functionality to the currency. This is what makes eCash so interesting to some parties, because, in the future, it will amalgamate proof of work and some of the traits of proof of stake. The implementation of avalanche is a major requirement to keep eCash evolving and to bring more advanced functionality to eCash – for instance Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility and advanced staking capabilities.
eTokens and Cashtab
While most of the work is being directed to Avalanche, other things are also happening in eCash’s inner development circle. eTokens are a big part of what eCash might represent in the future, but now there is not much information about the future of today’s token implementation. As of now, eTokens are simple assets based on the SLP protocol, derived from Bitcoin Cash’s implementation. Apart from their transactional traits, these are not enabled to do much more.
When asked if there were plans to shift away from the current eToken implementation, King stated:
“We are exploring alternative token implementations on eCash. For now, Cashtab supports SLP-based eTokens.”
King also stated that performance improvements were a very big part of its job when it comes to Cashtab, the web-native eCash wallet:
“We’re always working to improve the speed. Cashtab is one of the most extensively developed web wallets out there. It's a great starting point for devs looking to learn more about cryptocurrency wallets.”
All in all the conclusion is that most of the development team is focused on bringing Avalanche to fruition, and the rest are mostly working on making evolutionary improvements to eCash base products like the ABC full node software, Cashtab and ElectrumABC.
