The Bitcoin ABC team through the official eCash Twitter account announced last week that CashTab web wallet is moving to a better URL. Where until now the signature user friendly eCash web wallet was located on the Cashtabapp.com domain, it now can be found on the Cashtab.com domain. Right now you can find the web wallet on both the new and the old website address. When visiting the old Castabapp.com domain the user is greeted with this message:
“Cashtab is moving to a new home at Cashtab.com Please write down your wallet 12-word seed and import it at the new domain. At the end of the month, cashtabapp.com will auto-fwd to cashtab.com after one minute.”
As it was announced, this change will be effective at the end of the month, and according to official sources, the old address will still be available for a while. Twelve days from now the old Cashtabapp.com web address will still be reachable but will automatically redirect users to the new Cashtab.com address after one minute. As it sounds, this should give users time to find their seed phrase if they had not backed it up yet but it is better to back it up today if you have not done so already.
Wallet Migration Not Automatic
The migration to the new web address is not automatic. Although the old address will forward you to the new URL, you will have to import the existing wallets yourself. You do this by clicking “Import Wallet” and entering your 12 word seed phrase from the wallet that you previously created. You will see that if you use the correct 12 words, the imported wallet will show you the same address, same balance and same history. You will have to do this for each wallet you created on the old cashtabapp.com hosted web wallet.
At some point the old domain will stop being active and at that time you can no longer access your coins unless you have a correctly backed up 12 word seed phrase for each wallet that you had created in the CashTab wallet.
Beware Of Scams!
Your 12 words are the keys to your coins. Whoever has them is able to move your coins. For this reason it is important that you back them up in a safe way, for instance by writing them on a piece of paper and storing that piece of paper in a safe place. When using those 12 words to restore or import your wallet it is essential that you make sure that you are on the correct site. Double check the URL you are on or go to the e.Cash website and follow the link provided there. Never enter your 12 words in an app or web app that you are not familiar with or one that you did not verify the URL of. Scammers have been known to create sites or apps that look identical to wallets you know and if users enter their seed on such a (web) app, they are likely to lose their funds.
Alternative to Migrating Existing Wallet
If migrating an existing Cashtab wallet is something that people find too difficult, there is a simpler solution. Just move the coins to a newly generated wallet on the new domain. So instead of importing the 12 words, people can create a brand new wallet with a new 12 word seed and a new receive address. And then simply move all the XEC and eTokens to the new wallet emptying it completely. The very cheap network fees make this a viable alternative to migrating all of your CashTab wallets. If you choose this option you do need to make sure to move eTokens first as the network fee for moving them to the new wallet needs to be paid in XEC.
Move or Migrate to CashTab.Com Today!
The new https://cashtab.com URL is a great improvement over the old web address as it now perfectly matches the name of the wallet, which reduces the risk of users being tricked by scammers. It is also easier to remember. All that is now left for users to do, is to migrate their old Cashtab wallets (or move their eCash coins and eTokens) so they become usable on the new Cashtab.com address and do it as soon as possible. Also remember the new URL and most importantly, don’t forget to again safely back up any new 12 word seed phrases.
